John Lennon Peace Tower Iceland, 2008

This interesting mint stamp, issued by Iceland on October 9, 2008, features the John Lennon Imagine Peace Tower (click on image or "Details" for additional info). The tower and cloud above it was printed in glow-in-the-dark ink and a portrait of John Lennon is visible with ultraviolet light on the right half of the stamp (fluorescent ink; we tested it with short wave UV light and the portrait is bright and clearly visible).

The Imagine Peace Tower is a work of art conceived by the legendary artist, musician and peace advocate Yoko Ono as a beacon to world peace. The work is in the form of a wishing well from which a strong and tall tower of light emerges. The words IMAGINE PEACE is inscribed on the well in 24 world languages. The tower is located on Videy, a beautiful island close to Reykjavik.

The above image is an enlargement (scanned at 120% of actual size); the actual size of this stamp is 31 x 38.5 mm.
